Located in Luscombe, Queensland, Wolffdene Quarry has been a major supplier of construction materials since 1983 and was once Hanson Australia’s largest hard rock extractive site nationally. DEMEX was engaged to complete the demolition of decommissioned screening and crushing infrastructure as part of site modernisation works. The project supported sustainable outcomes, with all recovered materials processed for reuse or recycling.
DEMEX was subcontracted to undertake the structural demolition of obsolete processing equipment. Due to the scale and complexity of the infrastructure, a structural engineer was engaged to advise on the safest demolition methodology. Following assessment, the structure was brought down using the induced collapse method. Once safely on the ground, an excavator fitted with a hydraulic shear was used to segment the steel for offsite recycling. Concrete materials were retained and crushed onsite for future reuse by the client.
Induced collapse demolition successfully executed under engineering guidance, ensuring the safe takedown of complex processing infrastructure.
Sustainable material recovery, with all recovered of steel recycled and concrete repurposed on site.
