Selected from a global pool, DEMEX are very honoured to announce we are one of just four companies to be shortlisted in the Industrial category by the World Demolition Summit 2020. Determined by an international judging panel of leading industry experts, the World Demolition Awards are open to contractors and manufacturers, demonstrating excellence and best practice.

The project DEMEX submitted involved the demolition of 43 high risk buildings over 150,000m² in the Mulwala Explosives Facility in regional New South Wales, a site where propellant, high explosives and concentrated acids are manufactured.

The scale and variety of hazards this project presented required very tight planning, protocols, adherence to advanced technology and strong communication. All works took place while business as usual continued on the site of Australia’s most hazardous facility amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The location and historical applications of the project site raised significant challenges which demanded expert approaches in hazard remediation to deliver the project in accordance with the strictest safety and environmental expectations. A strong focus on recycling and safe disposal, meant 100% of the concrete and steel was committed to recycling, with only 30T general solid waste going to local landfill.
