DEMEX was engaged by G&S Engineering, a subcontractor to BMA, to remove a large decommissioned coal stacker reclaimer which formed part of the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal’s infrastructure, which is used by multiple coal producing companies operating in the region.
The works were conducted in a live operating environment characterised by ship loading activities, overhead crane operations, and vehicle traffic. The client specified a requirement for the site to be left in pristine condition in order for it to be ready to receive new export material.Â
Completed in just 13 days with zero incidents, the crew processed the steel using one 48 tonne excavator fitted with a shear attachment, and for the thicker gauges of steel, oxy/LPG was used. In total over 450 tonnes of scrap steel was used and transported it to Raw Metal Corp in Mackay.
