Health, Safety & Environment
We have established and are working towards meaningful health, safety and environmental goals.
We understand our people and community want to know that we have established and are working towards meaningful health, safety and environmental goals. Our efforts are focused in the following areas:
- Safe people, with an appreciation of our commitments to Indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse Australians
- Responsible resource management, focusing on circular economy principles Ongoing work health and safety training is conducted regularly to keep our people up to date with their licences and certifications, and as regulations change, additional training is provided to ensure our people are aware of, and working in accordance with any new legislation and standards.
We take our work health and safety obligations seriously and together with our people and partners strive to achieve outcomes we all can be proud of now and in the future. Feedback from our team on health and safety issues and areas for improvement is encouraged from all employees.
Apprenticeships & Cadetships
DEMEX has a philosophy of life long learning for every role in the business. Apprenticeships and cadetships are available and we encourage school leavers to get in touch to discuss school-to-work opportunities that may be available.
Indigenous employment
The importance of meeting our obligations to Indigenous Australians is understood and with that in mind DEMEX has implemented an Indigenous Employment Strategy (IES).This document outlines our commitment to creating employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians. Education, training, and employment opportunities are delivered under guidance from, and in conjunction with our Indigenous cultural advisor. Our primary objective through the IES is to help build competency and confidence in the individual, whether they are working with us as a contractor or employee.
For projects where Indigenous employment opportunities are identified, we work with organisations local to the specific to source and place suitable candidates. During project delivery, we strive to build capacity in each individual, allowing them to gain skills that lead to securing future employment, either with DEMEX or other employers.
We encourage skilled and unskilled Indigenous workers, as well as owners of Indigenous businesses, to connect with us. As a privately owned business, we would welcome the opportunity to connect with like-minded businesses with a focus on growth and expansion.
