Demolition of decommissioned Collingwood Tin Processing Plant near Cooktown in north QLD
The project included the demolition of the tin mine processing plant and associated structures including the crushing plant, conveyors and 16m high silo. To facilitate the safe demolition of the high structures, the induced collapse method was utilised by removing the key structural members and applying a force to enable the structure to fall in a controlled manner to the dedicated exclusion zone. The risks associated with working in a remote location were mitigated via the implementation of a suite of control measures such as the provision of a satellite phone, journey management plans and detailed emergency planning.
Working with the community and the traditional land owners, the DEMEX project team completed the project two weeks ahead of schedule.
