There were several buildings on the site, which was formerly the offices of the Gold Coast City Council, including the main administration building with its unique landmark glass pyramid roof and a four storey office building, known as the “riverside centre”. In preparation for the Commonwealth Games being hosted by GCCC, the building was demolished to make way for a new open air community area.
The location of this project in close proximity to theatre precinct demanded that we deliver the project mindful of environmental sensitivities. Noise, vibration and dust measurement and monitoring were maintained for the duration of the project, as were weekly meetings with project stakeholders (including neighbours to the site location). Significant site remediation was conducted as a result of asbestos contamination.
Delivered safely, significant remediation works, environmental and other sensitivities managed well through community relations program, 90 percent materials recycling.
