DEMEX was engaged as the demolition contractor for the demolition of an abandoned bridge in Helensvale, on Queensland’s Gold Coast, to facilitate the construction of the new light rail network.
The project included demolishing the bridge over a live Queensland Railway line. To ensure safe project delivery, detailed coordination between DEMEX, Queensland Rail and WHSQ was required. Demolition of the bridge was undertaken during an 8-hour rail shutdown period. Rail protection measures were installed to ensure no Queensland Rail assets were impacted by the demolition works.
Despite the tight timeframe, by working through the night, was able to safely complete the demolition works without any damage to rail infrastructure and handed back the site to Queensland Rail without any disruption to their services.
