DEMEX was engaged as the demolition contractor for the enabling works package of the Mudgee Hospital Redevelopment Project. Demolition works included a number of historic buildings including the Community Health Building and former Training Centre.
Prior to demolition works commencing, an extensive hazmat removal program was conducted that included significant amounts of friable asbestos, lead based paint and PCBs. Multiple structures had legacy friable asbestos contamination within the sub-floor and ceiling space from previously uncontrolled friable asbestos removal works. Working with the independent asbestos assessor, DEMEX’s specialised hazmat removal team thoroughly decontaminated the structures allowing safe demolition to occur.
Working within the live hospital grounds required detailed coordination and open communication to ensure hospital users were not adversely impacted.
