DEMEX was engaged to complete demolition and earth works at Wollemi Place, Tweed Heads. Demolition of existing structures including sheds, concrete slabs, and footings of a decommissioned drive-in movie screen
Project earth works required bulk excavation (cut and fill) to level the ground, during which DEMEX discovered contamination (asbestos contaminated soil) which halted site works and resulted in splitting the project works into multiple stages.
Stage 2 consists of decontamination of the soil, dewatering and completion of bulk excavation work.
So far, approximately 57,000 tonne of contaminated soil has been safely exported off site.
Stage 1 was carried out adhering to Covid-19 social distancing protocols and border closures without disruption to the demolition program.
