DEMEX was engaged to conduct the demolition package of the Ipswich Central Redevelopment Project. The project included the demolition of a five storey carpark, portions of the heritage listed Murphy’s Pub, shopping centre, precast concrete tilt panels, PT concrete slabs throughout and an extensive strip out.
Multiple demolition techniques were utilised based on the complex construction of the structure. Mechanical demolition included deploying DEMEX’s fleet of specialised demolition excavators while the precast concrete tilt panels and other fixtures were removed using a variety of cranes, including a 130 tonne mobile crane. Structurally unsound sections of the heritage-listed Murphy’s Pub were demolished in a controlled manner which allowed the protected shop front to be restored.
To ensure continuous access to the adjacent carpark, a 72 hours continuous demolition program, which included night demolition works, was required to facilitate demolition by a 62 tonne high reach excavator.
