DEMEX was engaged to complete the demolition and remediation of the old horse stables as part of the redevelopment of the Ipswich Turf Club.
Part of the project scope included remediation of asbestos contaminated soil. The soil was relocated to a purpose built cell in the middle of the turf club. This was capped with clean material and certified by a licensed hygienist.Â
Another element to contend with throughout the project was the race meets and training sessions for the horses which were held throughout the project. Noise pollution had to be limited in the mornings to avoid disturbing the animals, and the demolition site had to be kept clean and well presented for the club to maintain its racing schedule.
During the demolition, soil remediation and excavation, there were a number of workers onsite operating concurrently in multiple work zones involved in the construction of new structures, with sometimes as many as 40 people. For this reason the site had to be strictly maintained ensuring hazmat safety for all workers in the area.
